Nasri reminds Unai Emery, Alex Iwobi of his creative mastery in Arsenal loss
Arsenal boss Unai Emery was given a stark reminder of the importance of creativity by Sami Nasri on the same day that he left Mesut Ozil out of his squad completely. New West Ham signing Nasri was pitted against the club at which he had made his name in England n Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at the London Stadium.
The Frenchman, who was resuming his Premier League career after an 18-month doping ban, made a huge impact with an assist for Declan Rice’s match-winning goal. The former Gunners ace teed up Declan Rice for West Ham’s winner at the London Stadium, casting Unai Emery’s omission of Ozil in an unfavourable light.
Arsenal ere painfully toothless in attack for the majority of the game, struggling to create any clear-cut opportunities without fit-again playmaker Mesut Ozil, who was inexplicably left out of the visitors’ travelling party by Emery.
The Gunners’ lack of creativity was evident throughout, although they still forged half-chances for Alexandre Lacazette, who shot straight at Lukasz Fabianski, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who fired high over the bar with what was the visitors’ best chance.
West Ham’s organisation and dominance in possession forced Lacazette to come deep to win the ball. Emery had gone into the game never having won away to a side managed by Manuel Pellegrini and that run continued because he was tactically outwitted by the Chilean.
